Waiting on Wednesday #2: July 26th, 2017

A Map for Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor

Release Date: August 15th, 2017
29359948.jpgWe sat at the edge of the ocean—my sister Henri and I—inches apart but not touching at all. We’d been so sure someone would find us by now.

Emma had always orbited Henri, her fierce, magnetic queen bee of an older sister, and the two had always been best friends. Until something happened that wrecked them.

I’d trusted Henri more than I’d trusted myself. Wherever she told me to go, I’d follow.

Then the unthinkable occurs—a watery nightmare off the dazzling coast. The girls wash up on shore, stranded. Their only companion is Alex, a troubled boy agonizing over his own secrets. Trapped in this gorgeous hell, Emma and Alex fall together as Emma and Henri fall catastrophically apart.

For the first time, I was afraid we’d die on this shore.

To find their way home, the sisters must find their way back to each other. But there’s no map for this—or anything. Can they survive the unearthing of the past and the upheaval of the present?

BookTubeAThon: Day 1-2 Update!

So, I’ve decided to change up my TBR just a little bit because I am very much a mood reader but I still have read a decent amount!

Day 1: Today was a super busy day and I didn’t get much reading in until last at night, so I had sort of a slow start. None the less, today I started with the first challenge, “read a book with the person on the cover.”

Books Read: The Escape by Hannah Jayne

Pages Read: 247

Challenges Finished: 1

I’m super excited for the week to go on! Im so happy I finished this book today even though my day was still super busy. I was busy all day and didn’t get home till around 8 and read until midnight to finish it! Im going to try to finish the “read a hyped book” challenge by reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

Day 2:

Books Read: 0

Pages Read:0

So, today has been a super packed day! I spent the day babysitting and then had to go to practice and much more and I didn’t have a second to read. I got home around 10:30 and tried to read but I just wasn’t feeling the book I picked so I’ve switched it up a few times and I think I found a good book I like and will try to read a little tonight and tomorrow. I need to get back on track so I can read 7 books this week! let’s hope that still happens, but I will still be ok if I even read 4-5 books!

A Work In Progress by Connor Franta Book Review

Title- A Work In Progress

Author- Connor Franta

Published- April 21, 2015

Format- Physical Book

Stars- 5

In this intimate memoir of life beyond the camera, Connor Franta shares the lessons he has learned on his journey from small-town boy to Internet sensation so far.

Exploring his past with insight and humor, his present with humility, and his future with hope, Connor reveals his private struggles while providing heartfelt words of wisdom for young adults. His words will resonate with anyone coming of age in the digital era, but at the core is a timeless message for people of all ages: don’t be afraid to be yourself and to go after what you truly want.

This full-color collection includes photography and childhood clippings provided by Connor and is a must-have for anyone inspired by his journey.

First off, I want to say that this is the first memoir I have ever read! And I loved it!  This book made me look at life in a different way, in a new perspective. The way he writes is truly inspirational.

What I especially loved about this story is how relatable it is. When a reader reads a new book, they want to be able to connect and relate to the main character and in this book, you can very much relate! He describes all the hardships he has faced in life but has learned to overcome them. Everyone has had those times when they felt this way and Connor’s insight really helps if your going through tough times.

Im usually not a fan of non-fiction but Im so glad I picked this up and read it!

Also, the pictures in this book are gorgeous! Connor’s photography is a another level of amazing. The images in the book really set the whole tone for the books and I really loved them!

Question: Why does life have to feel like such a struggle at times? Answer: Because without the struggle, the triumphs wouldn’t taste as sweet.”

“I would rather have 1 amazing best friend than 100 decent regular friends. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.”

Have you read this book? Have  you read any memoirs? What do you think about them? Let me know in the comments!

BookTubeAThon runs from July 24th-30th.

This week long book event is hosted by Ariel Bisset,  so you can go check her out on Youtube! Her book videos are so great! 🙂

Now, for my TBR!

1. Read a book with a person on the cover

For this, Im choosing Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza because of course, it has a person on the cover. Haha!
2. Read a hyped book

For this, Im going to be reading Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson because I’ve heard so many great things about this book!
3. Finish a book in a day

For this, I chose We Were Liars by E. Lockhart because its seems like a short contemporary read.
4. Read a book about a character different from you

For this, I chose Elenor & Park by Rainbow Rowell because I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while and both characters seem different from me, so I’ll give it a try!
5. Read a book completely outdoors

For this, I chose Follow me By Ricky Dillon because its a short read. Its a Youtuber book meaning I can read it fast since it has pictures. Not to mention its suuuuuuper hot outside so this one will be extremely tough! Im hoping I can split it up over a few days but I prefer to read one book at a time so we will see how it goes.
6. Read a book you bought because of the cover

For this, I chose All the Missing Girls by Morgan Miranda because the cover is just stunning.
7. Read 7 books

Last but not least, my last book I’m going to read is Complications: A Surgeons Notes On An Imperfect Science by Atul Gawande. I figured I might as well get this book out of the way since I have to read it for school already.

Here’s a link to my TBR on Youtube!

Bookshelf Tour!

IMG_8057Welcome to my bookshelf!

This bookshelf is so old, I’m not sure where its from. Haha! Its survived 4 moves over the years and still going strong. It has 4 shelves (which are all full, like always) and one drawer on the bottom.

IMG_8058To the left of my bookshelf, I have this cute little lamp. It kind of reminds me of a street lamp in a way. Anyways, I’m pretty sure its from pier 1 imports but don’t quote me on that. Its 3 years old and going strong. Haha!

IMG_8059The top two shelves are all hardback books. This top shelves is my dystopian/fantasy books. They go from taller (left) to shorter (right).

IMG_8060The seconds shelf is again, hardback books. This is a mix of dystopian/fantasy books and contemporary books. I tried to sort them out a bit more but I took them all of of the shelf to take a picture and now they are all a mess haha.

IMG_8061The third shelf is the overflow hardbacks (on the left) and my more contemporary paperback books with a mix of a little fantasy. Going through this tour now, I’m surprised by the amount of fantasy and dystopian books I have. Its way more than the amount of contemporary books I have, which is surprising. I love both genres, but lately I’ve been leaning towards contemporary reads more, since it is the summer!

IMG_8062Last but not least, the final shelf. This shelf is my fantasy and dystopian paperbacks.

IMG_8063Also, the drawer on the bottom holds my school books I have to read for class (ignore the Harry Potter book that should be on my shelf, not sure why its there haha! I’ve been getting more into Harry Potter lately which is exciting!) This drawer also holds my library books, which I have none of right now, and my magazines. As you can see, I have my twenty one pilots magazines in there because they are my favorite band. 🙂

What does your shelf look like? Is it organized or messy? Do you have more paperbacks or hardbacks on your shelves? Leave me a comment below telling me what you think of this post and my shelves!

The Friday 56 #1: July 14, 2017

The Friday 56 was created by Freda from Freda’s Voice.

*Grab a book, any book.

*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader

(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)

*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)

*Post it.

*It’s that simple.

So, the book Im currently reading is…

13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough

I was dead for 13 minutes.
I don’t remember how I ended up in the icy water but I do know this – it wasn’t an accident and I wasn’t suicidal.

They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you’re a teenage girl, it’s hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I’m sure of it. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t try to kill me. Does it?

Since this is an ebook I have to go to 56% on my kindle and look for a quote. So here it is.

“I don’t want you to talk to anyone– including you. And the police keep coming and asking questions I can’t answer.” -Rebecca

So, what do you think? What are you currently reading? Have you ever read this book before? If you also participate in the Friday 56, tag your post down below and I will check it out! 🙂

Discussion Thursdays #1: Paperback or Hardback?

I always am asking myself the question: Should I get a hardback or paperback version of a book? This is the reason I have half hardback and half paperbacks on my shelf. And partially because paperback are so much more expensive than paperbacks so I have a bit more paperbacks than I do hardbacks.

Lets compare the pros and cons, shall we?

Paperback Books

  • Cheaper Than Hardbacks
  • Easier To Travel With
  • Easier To Read With (Easier To Bend, Hold, Carry, etc.)

  • Waaaay Easier To Damage the Spine, Cover, Pages, etc.
  • Doesn’t Looks As Great On The Shelf (Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOVE paperbacks on my shelf just as much as hardbacks also but sometimes hardbacks have super pretty dustjackets!)

Hardback Books

  • Better Looking On YourShelf
  • Less Likely To Damage The Spines
  • The Surprises On The Actual Book Under The Dustjackets (I LOVEEEE THIS!)

  • Waaaay More Expensive Than Paperback
  • Paper Cover Can Rip
  • Less Portable Than APaperback Book
  • Heavier Than A Paperback
  • Less Comfortable To Read With The Dustjacket Coming Off

Overall, I think I like paperbacks more than hardcovers but I loooove hardcovers also so this is a super hard choice aha!

What do you prefer? Hardbacks or paperbacks? Leave your answer in the comments!
